!! OMG, how homophobic: Tim Hortons !!

Tim Hortons was slated to sponsor a Marriage Day Celebration in Rhode Island. That all sounds fine until you find out that the celebration is anti-gay marriage. After negative press, Timmy’s decided to pull out of the rally:

Tim Hortons announced today it would withdraw its sponsorship of the upcoming Marriage Day Celebration, which is to be held in the shadow of a stately mansion in Warwick, Rhode Island. The event is organized by the National Organization for Marriage, a group that lobbies against the legalization of gay marriage, and the sponsors behind an ad campaign released in April that famously equated the gay marriage lobby to a gathering storm. After local blog the Providence Daily Dose reported yesterday on Tim Hortons’ choice to sponsor the event, the negative attention reached the company’s head office in Oakville.

Looks like we’ll be able to continue to enjoy sprinkle donuts after all.

  1. if supporting NOM isn’t ‘homophobic’ ,then i don’t know what is. just because the suits panicked and pulled-out doesn’t absolve them.

  2. I don’t know that I’d title this “homophobic”. I followed this story fairly closely yesterday, and the decision to sponsor the event was made at the local level. As soon as the nature of the event was brought to their attention (corporately), they withdrew.

  3. They only pulled-out after the realization that it would hurt their business. That is not stopping their true feelings. I for one will never patronize them again!
