!! OMG, how racist: Xbox !!

girl_on_girl.jpg
A woman was allegedly suspended from the Xbox Live community because she self-identified as a lesbian in her profile:

I was harassed by several players, ‘chased’ to different maps/games to get away from their harassment. They followed me into the games and told all the other players to turn me in because they didn’t want to see that crap or their kids to see that crap…Microsoft does nothing to stop this or prevent it, but instead sides with the homophobes. No one will help me get the word out about Microsoft’s anti-gay policy. Not even the HRC who says Microsoft has a positive image with them. Not to me it doesn’t!

Apparently this isn’t the first time Xbox HAS FOUND GAYNESS OFFENSIVE.

  1. Vid is from India. I understand why she is an idiot now. lol

  2. Glad to say I am a very happy PS3 and Mac user, thank you very much.

  3. yah yah! You are one of those in our community who cant stand an opposite perspective and immediately get into a defensive mode and start deriding the other individual.
Cyn_Shine had a point: valid for us or not, he/she put some point across. Defend your views in a dignified manner and we have quite an interesting argument in our hands.. Instead, you choose to use words that just puts her/him off and eventually people like Cyn_Shine dont get to understand your or my views.
The following may irk you guys, but please give it a thought:
I can understand when parents are concerned about homosexuality when all they know about being gay is people walking in leather panties or practically nude on the streets fighting for rights: at least this is what the media tries to project when it discusses about gay rights. When I came out to my father, well, thats what he was first concerned about! I convinced him out of it anyways, but my point is if parents should get an accepting view, the public perception about us should somehow change: we are (or at least want to be) as part of the mainstream, as career-oriented and as loving as anybody else.
Of course, I see this gradual change happening in the US but its not going to happen any soon in my country (India).. Oh and guys, if you start deriding me for these views, please dont use my nationality!

  4. Yeah, Cyn_Shine, we’re just a bunch of PC sissies. And you’re an ignorant twat. I feel sorry for your son. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit that he’s gay. Most homophobic parents always have gay kids. =)
I always find it interesting how when a gay person announces they are gay, they get bitched at how they are shoving their sexuality in people’s faces. Really? If I were to say that I’m Jew, would I be rubbing my yarmulke in your face? Do you even know what a yarmulke is, Cyn_Shine? I doubt it.
Here’s a better example – you just told us all that you have a son. I’m guessing by your name, you are a female, and your son isn’t adopted and you had him the “natural way”. Then that obviously means that you got fucked by a man, and 9 months later you squeezed a baby out of your vag! Talk about gross! But you have no problem putting that nasty image in our heads, do you? I mean, because you just displayed your sexuality to us, and rubbed that in our faces. I guess I shouldn’t accept that, and harrass the hell out of you then. It’s only fair.
And Cyn_Shine, don’t call us sissies when you sound like the most uptight, cry-baby, sissy bitch on earth.

  5. Okay….so here is the deal: I have a 13 year old son who plays Xbox live, and he doesn’t call people homos BUT, he is NOT going to be forced into tolerance. Its funny how when someone doesn’t agree with “YOU”, then they are a homophobe. It’s funny how when I didn’t vote for Obama, I was a racist. It’s funny how you translate “TOLERANCE and ACCEPTANCE” through “Not saying anything when homosexuals grope and make out in front of you, and your kids”. I guess when they said “I’m here, I’m queer. Get used to it”….it nailed it on the head. Your sexual orientation on Xbox does not have to be public knowledge to play a stinkin’ game. Yes this individual felt that everyone should know…..and accept that about her. People have a right to feel the way that they want to feel. They have a right to *oh should I say?* NOT ACCEPT, LIKE, APPRECIATE or TOLERATE the gay “in your face” approach at egging people on to fight you. Geez, this society is a Bunch of PC sissies.

  6. >> It says, I have just as much
    >> right to be here as you and you
    >> are forewarned that I will not
    >> accept f***ot or dyke any more
    >> than the African-American will
    >> acept n***er. Or the Jew will
    >> accept k**e.
Using the word f***ot or a dyke is derogatory in general, not just to a gay or a lesbian person.
The same way, I dont think a Jew or a Muslim needs to let others know his religion on such a medium. Which God we pray, what we are sexually is our own right and nobody else’s business..
    > In the case of virtual worlds,
    > putting your sexual identity out
    > there actually IS important,
    > just so that all the 12 year old
    > boys think twice before calling
    > everyone “GAY!” every 10
    > seconds. Trust me, homophobia is
    > rampant in virtual worlds much
    > more so than in the real one…
In some way I do agree with you.. But I dont think these spoilt brats are going to stop whether we are playing or not.. I think there are other avenues wherein we can think of curbing homophobia.. Media for starters. Not the gaming site.
And I still repeat, whatever happened to the lady is downright regrettable.. I am not meaning she asked for it, its just that this ugly thing could have been avoided.. But on the ‘positive’ side, this may let the Microsoft guys be aware that these incidents should not take place henceforth..

  7. Yes Vid you are right. You are the worst kind of gay, the coward who will roll over to have someone scratch it’s belly for the fleas.
It’s interesting that you don’t tie the same arguement to other minorities who likely will post their religion, race, age because in your eyes, they have nothing to be ashamed of. Posting your sexual orientation is not a sign of pride. It’s a sign of visibility. It says, I have just as much right to be here as you and you are forewarned that I will not accept f***ot or dyke any more than the African-American will acept n***er. Or the Jew will accept k**e.
You disgust me to no end because I know that as long as there are people like you in our leagues, we don’t need the fanatical right to keep us down.
    Shame on you.

  8. Vid, nice way to blame the victim. Kinda sounds like, “That girl was wearing the short skirt, so she was asking for it.”
Why do we put ANY attributes about ourself in a virtual game? Why do we put our gender? Why do we put our age? They’re all irrelevant to everyone else, right? Well, they’re relevant to US, and we DO identify ourselves in part by our sexual identity.
In the case of virtual worlds, putting your sexual identity out there actually IS important, just so that all the 12 year old boys think twice before calling everyone “GAY!” every 10 seconds. Trust me, homophobia is rampant in virtual worlds much more so than in the real one…

  9. I am gay myself..
I agree that the backlash that the lady faced is regrettable and downright disgusting but I dont think the lady needed to have mentioned her sexual orientation in her profile… Why do we need to show our sexual identity/orientation on an internet gaming site? It is okay to be proud of what we are but not okay to proclaim about it at every given opportunity..
My comment may trigger a lot of criticisms, I just hope there are some who agree with my point..

  10. I agree with Phil and as much as you (Gard) try to twist the definition of the word racist, homosexuality is not a race. If it were the GLBT community could already rely on current anti-racial laws.
That said the circumstances for this woman are still unfortunate.

  11. Phil, part of the definition of race includes the following:
“a class or kind of people unified by shared interests, habits, or characteristics”
So, yes, the term “racist” can apply.

  12. not a race. please stop calling it racist.

  13. Wouldn’t this be homophobic rather than racist? Just thought I’d point it out. 🙂
