Recent omgblog.com interviewee Vince Clarke is re-teaming with his former Depeche Mode band mate Martin Gore for a new techno project called VCMG. It’s the first time the two have collaborated since Depeche Mode’s 1981 debut album, Speak & Spell, for which Clarke was the chief songwriter. He then left to form Yazoo, The Assembly and of course, Erasure.
According to a press release, the pair will release a new album in early 2012 preceded by a series of EPs.The first one, Spock, is due out Nov. 30 on Beatport and on Dec. 13 everywhere else. Clarke and Gore started discussing the project in May 2011 and spent the past six months recording.
“I’ve been getting into and listening to a lot of minimal dance music and I got really intrigued by all the sounds,” Clarke said in the release. “I realized I needed a collaborator… so it occurred to me to talk to Martin.”
Indeed, the synthpop vet recently turned in an awesome remix of house singer Billie Rae Martin’s “Sweet Suburban Disco.” (We blogged about it here.)
Check out the Spock tracklist and a live performance of choice Speak & Spell cut “Photographic” below.

Damn, I miss the 80s Depeche minus guitars and Dave’s strained voice. Have missed them for years now.
