!! OMG why not wear it? Benny Andallo’s outrageous hats !!

Rihanna wears Benny Andallo

Have we all caught our breath since Rihanna’s better-late-than-never MET Gala appearance? Good, because there’s another ensemble she wore recently that deserves some commotion. Our friend to the left agrees!

The weekend before the first Monday in May, Ri stepped out in an OTT black-and-white look that shook.

With a baby bump on full display, Rihanna took to the streets in a feathery frock and custom faux fur and black ostrich hat of Jamiroquai-esque proportions.

The piece was created by London-based milliner Benny Andallo, who’s known for crafting outrageous headwear worn by stars such as SZA, Lil Nas X and Erykah Badu.

Check out more of his most famous pieces after the jump.

Andallo describes his designs as “silly crowns,” so this roster of pop culture royalty tracks as a fan following.

And perhaps also unsurprisingly, Andallo collaborated with Junya Watanabe for the Japanese creative’s Fall 2022 collection inspired by Jay Kay, the singer of Jamiroquai.

But let’s get back to Rihanna for a moment and give a few snaps to her stylist, Jahleel Weaver.

The duo’s relationship, which also saw Weaver in the role of deputy creative director at Fenty, has resulted in a number of iconic sartorial gestures from the singer including the Loewe/Maison Alaia outfit Rihanna wore to perform the halftime show at this year’s Super Bowl.

We didn’t know we needed a dominatrix Teletubby moment here, but we obviously did.

And let’s not forget the Art Deco extravagance from Maison Margiela that Rihanna wore to take the stage at The Oscars.

Weaver has also re-written the script for maternity wear by proposing that just because you’re pregnant, doesn’t mean you can’t be sexy as hell.

But perhaps my favourite example of Weaver’s scene-stealing styling was the pair of feathery falsie-embellished sunglasses Rihanna wore with her Maison Valentino gown and cape to the most recent MET Gala.

The Benny Andallo-topped outfit was really Weaver’s way of presenting an appetizer before this main dish. And of course, we ate. It. Up.

OMG, why not wear it? is our column for fashion lovers who are up for anything. It is an inspiration point, a place for dreaming, and a discussion of beauty, weirdness, and thought-provoking design moments as forms of connection. Written by Odessa Paloma Parker (@odessapaloma)
