It’s Scorpio season.

We often hear this time, referred to as being the time of year when the veil is thinnest. The space between our realm and the realm of that which we cannot see this permeable, flexible.

One time, and I can’t remember if this was during Scorpio season or not, I was asleep in my partner’s bed. In the middle of the night, I woke up and hanging above the bed from the ceiling, about halfway down the mattress, with a ghostly apparition of many many pieces of dusty fabric. Sheer gauze and cheesecloth, all white, all old and tattered. Whether this was a mid-sleep, hallucination, a waking dream, or a visit from the spirit world, I don’t know. I sat up looking at it for quite a while, continuously blinking to see if it would go away and it didn’t. At one point I tried to reach out my hand to touch it and then common sense stopped me from that—I don’t watch a lot of horror movies because they scare me too much, but I watch enough to know that trying to touch the ghost is a bad idea.

I’ve taken this apparition, this memory, as such a literal metaphor of this veil between worlds. An actual veil! Of all ghosts to see, this was a pretty good one.

We love to talk about Scorpio in the context of the spooky. Scorpio is certainly the spookiest of the signs, not just because Halloween/Samhain falls under her purview. Scorpio rules the things that we are afraid of, Scorpio rules fear itself. Scorpio rules the feeling that you have when you have conquered a fear, when you have faced it and said that you “permit it to pass over and through you” (Dune, in general, is very Scorpio).

In medieval anatomical astrology Scorpio ruled the reproductive organs and the rectum—Scorpio ruled sex and shit. This sign is about transformation on its most profound and most mundane levels. The transformation of our bodies coming together to make other bodies. The transformation of our food into poop. All of this is Scorpionic.

Each of us have every one of the signs of the zodiac somewhere in our chart, with or without planetary placements. Each of us has a Scorpio side—each of us has a part of our life about which we are passionate, intense, and focused. This part of ourselves (and if you have Scorpio placements, this part will be louder) can’t be backed away from. This is a part of yourself you need to lean into, allowing full expression.

Your Scorpio side can teach you that every time you have felt like you are (or you have thought someone else is) too much, this can be easily reframed as an abundance of self.

Happy Halloween and remaining days of Fall,
Amelia

Horoscopes are written using whole house calculations and are meant as inspiration and affirmation. Specific calculations are made for the rising signs, but if you don’t know your rising sign, you can read for your sun. You can access your birth chart at astro.com, café astrology, or many other apps and websites using your birth date, time, and location. You can also find out lots of personal information by booking a reading with me here.

Libra

Libra Rising

Libra rising people have Scorpio on their second house of possessions. This house rules physical and material objects. It also rules your money and your finances, as well as all of the things that we need to live. It rules, food, it has to do with your energy, and it rules the things that you can rely on. With Scorpio in his placement, Libra risings can get a little intense about their stuff. Scorpio also rules obsession, so Libra rising people are often collectors.

This part of your chart gets energetic focus this month, with the sun passing through it and the New Moon in Scorpio on the 1st. This is great energy for taking stock of what you own. Scorpio season will always be a good time for you to do budgets, or housecleaning that involves getting rid of things you no longer need.

New moons are times of new beginnings, so let the objects around you describe the interior you want to cultivate.

Scorpio

Scorpio and Scorpio Rising

It’s your time! Happy you season, Scorpio, happy time of mystery, of shortening days, of sinking into darkness not because it’s scary because things emerge when you can’t see. November begins with a new moon in your sign – we often think full moons when we think of a spooky night, but a new moon to me is actually even more perfect for this season. The sky is completely dark, we are in a time of new beginnings. Scorpio doesn’t rule the beginnings themselves, but a Scorpio can help you get there.

It is your Scorpio friend that you want to contact when your life has fallen apart and you need to begin again. It is our Scorpio side that we need to access when we feel like we are in our darkest place. People with prominent Scorpio placements have more familiarity with the transformative side of life, with the depths. Not all Scorpios are intense, not all Scorpios are brooding, not all Scorpios are passionate and creative and scary, but the archetype is. The Scorpios among you that don’t feel the connection to the archetype we see so much of (and there are many of you out there) consider the parts of your life where you feel intensity.

Maybe you get really intense at board games. Maybe you’re a really good listener. Maybe you have no idea how to make small talk. However, it is you connect to your Scorpio, self, lean into it, because the sign demands full immersion.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius rising

Scorpio rules the part of your chart that has to do with mental health, your dreams, and solitude. This area, the 12th house, is the part of the chart that in ancient astrology was referred to as “the house of troubles.” RuPaul’s new memoir is called The House of Hidden Meaning, a phrase that—based on the two chapters of the book that I listened to—I think is supposed to refer to the 12th house, but unfortunately, Mother’s astrology is total gobbledygook. With Scorpio on this part of your chart, you have an intense, quiet, solitary part of yourself that most people don’t see. Sagittarius rising people tend to be quite jovial (the word jovial literally refers to Jupiter, your ruling planet).

People often take you for being easygoing, fun, and chill to be around. This can be true, but Scorpio in your 12th house describes the part of you that people don’t see, and how passionate you are. This month, as happens every Scorpio season, this part of your natal chart is highlighted. This is a great time to pay attention to your dreams and to journal. The new moon in Scorpio on November 1 signals a new beginning around this time of your life.

Use this moment to decide how you want to treat yourself moving forward. Take yourself out for a solo date, wherever you want to be, and spend some time in deep contemplation. If you can manage it, don’t bring your phone. This is going to be a good way to work with the astrology and lean into your own Scorpio side.

Capricorn

Capricorn rising

My favourite surprising astrological fact is that  Capricorn and Scorpio are besties. It seems antithetical – Scorpio, passionate, emotional, creative, and Capricorn, orderly, structured, and in charge. These two signs are in a relationship to each other called a sextile. Sextiles occur between signs two apart from each other in the zodiac, and they possess a dynamic and challenging relationship between them. Scorpio can help Capricorn find the power it needs to accomplish the projects that Capricorn has planned.

Capricorn can help Scorpio walk through all the details of their current passion project. The support between these two signs is like a really excellent work collaboration, or like two Bros with a really emotionally mature relationship. Scorpio sits on the part of your chart that rules your communities. You’re 11th House rules, all your friendships, social groups, and networks, and with Scorpio, in this part of the chart, you’re very passionate and emotional about these relationships.

This month, this part of your chart gets lit up by the sun, as it does every Scorpio season, making it a great time to focus on your relationships and friendships. Capricorns, particularly Capricorn risings, can get a bit of a reputation for being cold and boundary and not very social, so let’s Scorpio season be the time that you show people that that’s not true, you just have your own particular (and particularly intense) way of socializing.

Aquarius

Aquarius rising

Scorpio rules your 10th house, Aquarius risings, the part of your chart that has to do with career and public profile. This part of the chart, it’s rulerships, and its placements, have grown to have substantially greater importance than was the case in the past. This is our public image, our brand. Appropriately for Aquarius, which can tend towards privacy anyway, Scorpio, the intense and mysterious, rules the most public part of your chart. If you do maintain a public profile, like a social media profile or if you do work that is public facing, it’s likely that you like there to be some distance between that and your own actual personal life. This part of your life is lit up by the sun this month, as it is every Scorpio season.

This is a great time to focus on your work in the broad sense of the term, not necessarily your labor in the day-to-day minutia, but on what you actually want to give to the world and what you want your legacy to be someday. With Scorpio, here thankfully this kind of intense thinking is natural for you anyway. Use the new moon on November 1 to set some new goals for yourself around around your career and work.

Check in with these goals during Taurus season when the Scorpio new moon happens, because these kind of seeds take time to grow and a new to full moon cycle is a wonderful timeframe for this process.

Pisces

Pisces rising

Scorpio rules the part of your chart that has to do with your growth, your learning, and your development. This area of the chart, the ninth house, is a part of your life that you’re very passionate about. This makes sense as a Pisces rising: Pisces people are often naturally curious and really interested in learning about things that other people might dismiss. With Scorpio here, you’re often better equipped to learn about things that are scary for other people. Scorpio rules death, and in this part of the world it heralds the death of the leaves on the trees, the greenery, the plants.

Both Scorpio and Pisces are signs that are excellent at understanding transformation. This month, as the sun lights up your ninth house, spend some time in deep learning in your Scorpio side learn from the things that you’re often afraid to face, learn from the things that you naturally want to back away from. You’re naturally predisposed to it, and the people around you rely on your empathy in this and all things.

Aries

Aries rising

For you, Scorpio territory is the eighth house. I was just speaking about the eighth house to a client the other day who, like many people, have a hard time understanding the significance of the eighth house. Lucky for you, the eighth house is natural Scorpio territory. The eighth House rules transformation, it rules intimacy, it rules entanglement. As an astrologer, we often joke that the 8th house is about sex, death, and taxes. Truth be told this isn’t really much of a joke because it’s just true. Sex, death, and taxes are all inevitable, they’re all things that tie our shit to other peoples shit.

As happens every Scorpio season, the sun lights up this part of the chart up for you. On a mundane level, this could be a time where you get laid a lot, or it could be a time where you deal with annoying financial things related to taxes, inheritances, grants, or any other situation where someone else becomes your thing to deal with. on less Monday, it’s a time of year where you were invited to go deep in your relationships.

Think about the shit you carry for other people and the shit that they carry for you. Aries tend to like to move fast and describe their needs and emotional states quickly. This time of the year demands slowness from you. Use the astrology of the new moon on November 1st to consider the beginnings that come out of this kind of transformation.

Taurus

Taurus Rising

Taurus Risings have Scorpio ruling the part of your chart that is about one-on-one relationships. Scorpio is the opposite sign to Taurus, and this point of relationships (the Descendant) is the opposite of the point of identity (the rising sign, also called the Ascendant). These two polarities describe some of the key binaries of human experience. There is the binary of the self and other, and then there is the binary described by Taurus and Scorpio.

Taurus rules the things in life we need to feel safe: food, rest, comfort. Scoprio rules deep emotional connection and transformation: in other words, discomfort. As a Taurus rising you are a supremely loyal person with a very deep dedication to your one-on-one relationships.

This month this area of your life gets illuminated by the sun, giving you an opportunity to consider their importance in your life. The New Moon in Scorpio on the 1st provides an opportunity for renewal around your relationships. Set intentions to begin anew, in some way or another, and recommit yourself to your closest people.

Gemini

Gemini Rising

Scorpio rules your 6th house of daily life. This part governs the mundanity of the everyday, but also the sacredness: This territory, archetypally associated with Virgo, knows that the simple routines of our day to day life are sacred because they are, in fact, all we have. This is where life happens. With Scorpio on this part of your chart you are more attuned to this fact.

This month as the Sun lights up this area of your life, you get your annual focus on the everyday. The 6th house also rules your health, so this is an excellent time to pay some attention to your well being. The new moon in Scorpio on the 1st is excellent astrology to set good intentions. This of this as a birthday for your health and routines. Set up habits, put together goals, and consider what you want the next year of your life to look like for your health.

If you are 17, 29, 41, 53, 65, or 77 (or about to turn one of those ages), this is (will be) a particularly strong year for working on your health, so take this new moon for the gift that it is.

Cancer

Cancer Rising

For Cancer Risings, Scorpio sits on your 5th house – every month I love writing my horoscope for the sign that gets 5th house astrology that month. The 5th house rules: creativity, socializing, falling in love, dancing, children, pets…in a word, the 5th house rules fun! The 5th house rules the things that make life worth living. With Scorpio here, you can be quite serious about fun. Cancer rising people are often very serious about creative pursuits, and can be pretty intense about dating. This is a great tactic, actually, for a sign such as Cancer which is very concerned with their people.

All Cancer people are in some way very invested in the people the consider to be family, and spend much of their life in deep search of those people (the water-sign yearning lends me to believe that Cancer, as an archetype, is a lesbian). This month, as happens every Scoprio season, you get a focus on this part of your life. It’s time to have fun! Go to a Halloween party! Go to several! Drink a seasonal cocktail! Eat discount trick or treat candy! This is great astrology for feeling great. The new moon in Scorpio on the 1st is wonderful astrology to prepare new beginnings in this area of your life.

If you’re looking to meet new dates, use the astrology on the 1st to set yourself up to meet them. If you’re in a relationship, use it to kindle (or rekindle) fun romance in your dynamic. For everyone, pick up a new creative practice or hobby (or re-start an old one). I say this to temper the Scorpio side of you: it doesn’t have to be serious, it does’t have to be good. The point of this astrology is to experience joy.

Leo

Leo Rising

Scorpio sits on the part of your chart that rules your home and family. The 4th house, archetypally  associated with the sign of Cancer, is about the people and places that make you feel most safe. Where do you feel a sense of home? Around whom? Leo people are tremendously loyal, and as a Leo rising this is underlined by having Scorpio in this part of the chart. Scorpio will stand by their people through anything, and for you, this means family.

This month you get an astrological focus on this part of your chart and life, with the sun lighting it up and the new moon offering some new beginnings. This is good astrology for moving into a new home or looking for one, for starting projects around your house, for spending time with your family, and making further plans to do so. The new moon in Scorpio is also a time for you to decide how you want to relate to these parts of your life throughout the next upcoming year.

If there are changes in the way you want these parts of your life to look, use this astrology to set those intentions. This is particularly true if you are 16, 28, 40, 52, 64, or 74 (or about to turn one of those ages). Happy homemaking!

Virgo

Virgo Rising

Virgo Rising folks have Scorpio on your 3rd house, the part of your chart that rules your communication. This is what you say and how you say it, and what you think and how you think it. With Scorpio rising in this part of your chart you are intentional about your communication, a possibly intense communicator, and slow to make choices. Virgo people love to be careful anyways, and this Scorpionic side underlines the deep thinking that goes into your choices.

This month, as happens every Scorpio season, you get an illumination to this part of your life from the sun as well as the opportunity to set up some new patterns through the New Moon in Scorpio on Friday the 1st.

Do you have ways of communicating that you’d like to change? Things you’d like to get better at saying? Want to try to tackle some challenging thought patterns? This astrology is excellent for doing those things, so take a moment on the 1st to consider what your life would look like if these changes came to fruition.
