Balenciaga designer Demna Gvasalia has perhaps achieved a first in fashion, no small task: He made us do a double take to make sure one of his runway models wasn’t literally a door canvasser for the Bernie Sanders campaign (see photo above). Well done! Bernie Sanders himself even had a few thoughts to contribute on the collection.
As a counterpoint to the civically engaged volunteer look, Gvasalia also presented rumpled retrofuture businessman looks and a layered puffer vest ensemble that prompted this comment from Bernie, “With all due respect to Mr. Gvasalia, who I’m sure is a terrific person, we’ve been wearing this look in Vermont for years.”
