Haiti’s ambassador to Italy, Gandy Thomas, expressed in an interview with the AP. “We may not be a winter country, but we are a nation that refuses to be confined by expectation. Absence is the most dangerous form of erasing.”
Apparently, they weren’t allowed to paint the revolutionary who helped free Haiti who is riding on the horse because IoC said it was too political – BUT they did get away with the horse itself. The inspiration artwork is ‘Toussaint Louverture’ by Edouard Duval-Carrie:
