At the Oscars…people of color are always welcomed to give out awards…even entertain, but we are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments. Should people of color refrain from participating all together? People can only treat us in the way in which we allow.
With much respect in the midst of deep disappointment,

– Actress Jada Pinkette Smith, on the lack of diversity at the OSCARS
It isn’t about race. It is about what the Academy deemed worthy of the nomination(s). If they didn’t deem any movie, etc…with a POC in the lead, at the helm, etc…then so be it. It isn’t about race, it is how good people are at their craft. Again, POC wants to make it about color…smdh!
The Best Director for the past 3 years all went to POC. Lack of diversity my ass.
Sour grapes that her husband wan’t nominated behind a facade of a racial rant. Rather than pulling this nonsense, she should be dealing with her rotten kids. If Will is upset about not being nominated, then she should let him speak for himself. Rather than show everyone how racist she is.
sheesh: a lot of racists in this thread…i learned long time ago that white gay men can be as bigoted as white straight ones…of course blacks are super talented! no comparison approaches sanity between cultural groups…
Why does this idiot believe she can demand respect from the Oscar voters or American public while totally ignoring the utter lack of respect that many rappers have for their own people? These people make a fortune while systematically creating a very negative reputation for black. MLK would be disgusted & appalled to see how low African Americans have sunk in their expectations of equality.
A much better place to start demanding respect is from your own community then magically seeing you have actually earned the real respect of others.
Tangerine is an overrated piece of shit. Tedious and horribly acted, I had to force myself to finish it. An acting nomination for that movie would have been a joke.

I think all of you missed the point of the video and the boycott. In the video she’s not looking to segregate anyone from anything, whats she’s trying to do is make sure that POC are recognized for they’re work that was put in for the past 2 years that is not being acknowledged, and since they’re not then maybe they should create they’re own award. There were multiple films, actors, directors, that could have and should have been nominated i.e Dope, Creed, Straight Outta Compton, 3 1/2 minutes, Tangerine, and so on, but since the categories for the award show is voted upon by 70% of white men, these works get over looked by medicore white talent. Which all circles back around to there being a lack of diversity in the media and it is constantly showing every year, and POC can’t just make they’re movie an expect it to get the same recognition, as bigger films.
They shouldn’t HAVE to nominate in order to appease a race. The talent is what matters, not the color of your skin. This is ironic coming from Jada, who hasn’t done anything that came close to deserving an award.
The video I saw has her calling for segregation. Seems like a step backwards and very racist to me.
I still believe it is the TALENT, not the color of the skin that needs to be recognized.
Truth: If POC want to boycott Oscar that’s fine with me. In fact, I think they should.
Such BS. Again…why do you refuse to allow my comment? Are you against free speech which you so espouse? If they acted better, directed better, then I’m certain they would be nominated more. Why do we need a Miss Black America? What would the African community say if a Caucasian female wanted to enter? We accept them without abandon in the Miss America pageant. That is just one of MANY examples I could offer.
