(Assuming there are opposites) Liberal is not the opposite of Republican. Liberal is the opposite of Conservative. There are Conservative Democrats and Liberal Republicans.
That said, good for her. We need more nuanced people in the country rather than crazies on both sides taking over their parties from the rest of us.
