D’Angelo reached his creative peak with the critically acclaimed 2000 album “Voodoo,” which cemented his status as a leader in soul music’s evolution. However, a provocative music video from that era thrust him into an uncomfortable spotlight, contributing to his withdrawal from the public eye for nearly a decade.
