Today we wish a very happy birthday to country music icon Dolly Parton. A prolific songwriter, gifted vocalist, dynamic performer, and astute businesswoman, Dolly has been a force of nature since she burst into country music in the 1960s.
Even at the beginning of her career, Dolly pushed boundaries with her feminist anthem “Just Because I’m a Woman” (1968). You’ll see in the video above that some of the men in the audience were not at all impressed, but her star only rose from there.
Fast forward to last year’s Blue Smoke Tour. This a cappella rendition of her haunting bluegrass single “Little Sparrow” highlights her still unbelievable voice. Never stop, Dolly!
