Short answer is yes they are. Going to someone and saying something along the lines of “hey here’s an invitation for you to come and share in one of the happiest days of my life because your an important person in my life and I would be honored to have you there” is very heartwarming and sweet until you read the small print that says something along the lines of “our wedding will be held at an exclusive resort on one of the Greek isles. All guests are asked to rsvp as soon as soon as possible, and purchase their own airfare and cover their own lodgings and food while staying at the resort” suddenly it goes from very sweet and touching, to a drink coaster.
