New York rapper Mykki Blanco was one of the up-and-coming acts to feature in a recent Pitchfork article on the city’s queer hip-hop scene. Up until now, however, the drag punk-rap mercenary hasn’t released much in the way of recordings.
That situation is about to change. This month, Blanco is putting out the single “Wavvy,” a collaboration with producer Brenmar, and has two more releases in the pipe: the mixtape Cosmic Angel, which will feature production from Gatekeeper, Teengirl Fantasy, Nguzunguzu and more, and the EP Mykki Blanco & the Mutant Angels, due out on May 15 via UNO and OH-WOW. Unlike the club-friendly “Wavvy,” the latter will emphasize Blanco’s scream-y, free-form punk side.
