Okay, don’t kill me cause this has literally been around since before I had pubes, but with Madonna busy collapsing her way across Europe I thought it was a good time to revisit Uptown Julie Brown’s completely genius MEDUSA: DARE TO BE TRUTHFUL mockumentary. Yes, I know you’ve already seen it. But that was probably ten years ago, right? Whatever. There will be loling.
As a 12-year-old just blossoming into the beautiful flower of my gaiety, I thought Ms. Brown’s TRUTH OR DARE parody was the absolute f*cking height of comedy. And you know what? Watching it, uh, a few years later it’s actually maybe even better than I remembered. Julie Brown’s Madonna voice– the nasal timbre and the clipped, precise consonants– is particularly LOLish/brilliant. Plus it’s prescient: MEDUSA was crucifying people on stage ages before the real Madonna did it.
Fun fact: A very young Kathy Griffin has a small but crucial role as one of Medusa’s backup singers. See her star turn and a few other choice moments after the jump.
