The latest precocious pop star to emerge from the United Kingdom is 24-year-old Marina Diamandis, a husky-voiced singer-songwriter who will release her debut album Family Jewels under the moniker Marina and The Diamonds (“The Diamonds” actually does not refer to her backing band, but rather you, the fans) in late February. This year is already off to a promising start for Marina: the BBC listed her as number two on its tastemaking ‘Sound of 2010’ list and her new single “Hollywood”, about her obsession with the all-American way of life, comes out on February 1.
We have two remixes of “Hollywood” for you to check out: a deeply gay house remix by DFA Records recording artist The Juan MacLean and a bounce-y new wave reworking by someone called ‘Monarchy Gliese’. Marina has just released a video for the acoustic version of the song, which is also very nice.
