Swedish pop star Robyn is throwing the marketing rule book out the hotel window by releasing three albums this year. The first, Body Talk Pt. 1, is due out on June 15 and will be preceded by the industrial pop single “Dancing On My Own” on June 1. As the title suggests, it’s a song about being sad on the dance floor and the official video, released mere hours ago, features Robyn dancing up a storm and pretending to make out with herself. There are also a few shots toward the end of cute boys making out (with each other).
According to the official press material, “Dancing On My Own” is inspired by Robyn’s love for “inherently sad, gay disco anthems” such as Ultravox’s “Dancing With Tears in My Eyes”. “It’s the contrast between dancing, which is such a happy form of expression, and feeling heartbroken,” she says. “I think those songs get to people because heartbreak is such a lonely feeling but you can share that sadness so easily with the right song.”
Robyn and Kelis also announced their intention to tour North America together this summer via an obviously contrived but cute Twitter exchange. Details have yet to be announced. Check out the making of the “Dancing On My Own” video after the jump.
