Here’s something for the Canucks to read while their American friends are off stuffing themselves with Tofurkey this weekend…
Opera Arcana is an indie pop band emerging from between the pages of classic Southern Ontario gothic literature. I’ve read a bunch of books by Timothy Findley, Margaret Atwood and Robertson Davies but somehow I failed to realize that collectively their works amount to a geographically-specific literary sub-genre. I must’ve skipped school that day to attend Anne Rice’s Memnoch The Devil book signing at the mall.
Anyhoo, Opera Arcana should also be of note to punk rock fans because one of its three members is queer punk legend/filmmaker G.B. Jones from the band Fifth Column. The other two members are Julie Faught from The Pining and Minus Smile from Kids on TV. They will perform for the first time together at the Hotnuts “Legitimate Look” party in Toronto this Saturday, November 28. For a taste of what to expect, check out the video for their new song “The Raven” above.
