Legendary superstar George Michael kicks off the North American leg of his 25 LIVE Tour on Tuesday, his first time touring on this continent in 17 years, and to celebrate, !! omg blog !! is having a fabulous George Michael giveaway!
The winner will receive a pair of concert tickets and a copy of his Twenty Five DVD, and the four runners up will receive DVDs.

It’s pretty simple really. He is a man who publicly went through the emotional, physical, and psychological struggles that most gay men endure until they’ve learned to open up and embrace who they are. You have to admire someone who has the endurance to pull through the shit he went through, all while the tabloids ate it up.
I remember being too little to know who George Michael was, but my parents bought me his cassette tape (my first) cause I would dance like CRAZY everytime I heard one of his/Wham’s songs. I still have the tape and still listen to it, but I think it’s time for an upgrade. I wanna dance to the real thing.

When I was 18 (in 1988) and living in southeast georgia, i was a slightly chubby, slightly pastey, somewhat girly white boy. Until, that is, I heard George Michael’s “I Want Your Sex.”
For some reason, that song conjured fantasies in my mind of becoming a go-go dancer in a jock strap, and embracing and enjoying sexuality.
So, I dropped 20 pounds, buffed up, got a tan, went to Hotlanta, danced in my jock strap and Doc Martens, and spent the weekend with Mr. Leather Atlanta. I haven’t looked back.
George Michael is my father figure because he taught me that it was ok (even better than ok) to enjoy sex.
George is my father figure because i feel his music is speaking to me in a way no other artist has. It always feels like he is helping me with my problem instead of telling me about his.
George Michael is the ultimate father figure because who wouldn’t want a dad like that to sing you to sleep? George’s best songs, which focus on his crystal clear voice, are still able to pierce the soul. To be able to go from “Wham Rap” to songs like “A Different Corner” or “Praying for Time” truly shows his evolution as an artist. Plus, girlfriend is proudly GAY, and damn, we need more artists like him.
I have been a fan since Wham! first came on the scene. My college dorm had “Whamfests” after getting back from going to the bar. And I also appreciate the way that George’s music matured, showing a more serious side. And he takes himself seriously – but not too seriously.

Why is George Michael my father figure?? Well, it’s because of this: More than once, after watching Wham’s music video for ‘Wake Me Up Before you Go Go’, I have had a recurring dream. The dream goes something like this: I’ve stayed out late – well past my curfew – and my Dad (George Michael, of course) is waiting up for me. He’s mad. Anyway, I won’t go into details, but it involves a spanking (and yes, he’s wearing the gloves from the Wham video).

The simple transitive property: George Michael=Person who performs illegal sexual acts. Person who performs illegal sexual acts=Priest. Priest=Father. Therefore, George Michael is a father figure.
Why is George michael my father figure? First I grew up listening to Wham and to George Michael. Second when I first saw the “Wake me Up Before You Go Go” video and George in those TINY short shorts I knew he was my kind of man. And finally he is a positive gay role model (for the most part, we will forget that park incident!) for many young gay men.
I always fantasized that George was Andrew Ridgely’s daddy, and that was good enough for me (picture Daddy’s head in Andrew’s lap while making SOMETHING big!)
I just loved the album/song titles, too. “Make it Big”, Bad Boys”, “I’m Your Man” and, certainly, when George DIDN’T shave his chest hair, he was so hot, and Andrew’s and MY, Father Figure!

George Michael is my “father figure” because I see many similarities between the two of us. Both of us were outed before we were ready, due to reckless behaviour… Both of us are musicians… Both of us are gay, but don’t allow “being gay” to define us… But most importantly, George Michael became a key figure in the public eye as representative of what a gay man in the pop music world looks like. He could’ve easily kept denying who he truly was, but chose to use the opportunities presented to him to become a positive role model in the gay community and society as a whole. Sure he’s made mistakes, but who among us has not? It’s what we all learn from those mistakes that makes George Michael a “father figure” to me.
George Michael is my father figure because, at a time when my own father was disgusted by my homosexuality, I had someone like George Michael to look up to.
