The LGBTQ+ community has historically faced a ton of oppression, and the sports industry – well… they’ve also been pretty homophobic and closed off at times to LGBTQ+. There’s been so much discrimination simply as a result of one’s gender or sexuality in this traditionally “masc” hobby/industry. So it’s VERY refreshing to watch an NBA icon like Charles Barkley use his platform to spread understanding, love and acceptance within his space. Believe it or not, basketball has a huge influence on a lot of people!
