Hannah Horvath is turning forty, and HBO wants to watch. Lena Dunham is reviving GIRLS as a five-episode limited series. She’s writing, directing and executive producing alongside Judd Apatow, with Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Andrew Rannells all returning as Marnie, Jessa, Shoshanna and Elijah.
Cameras roll in 2027, ten years after the finale left Hannah breastfeeding a baby upstate. Dunham says the characters “started talking to me in the shower” around her own fortieth birthday, and HBO’s comedy chief Amy Gravitt says this time the show trades “the tumult of one’s twenties” for turning forty.
Nobody has said a word about Adam Driver yet, so the Adam Sackler discourse begins now!
