This Independence Day is going to be an extra special one for flag-waving dark disco band Lioness. None other than Interscope Records recording artist Kelis has sampled a remix of their single “You’re My Heart” by Toronto-based producer Pilotpriest for the massive summer foam party anthem ‘4th of July (Fireworks)’.
So how exactly did one of our favorite indie bands get sampled by Kelis? The track somehow fell into the hands of Los Angeles-based producers DJ Ammo and Poet Name Life who turned its life-affirming piano and synth intro into the hook for “4th of July”, the second single off the singer’s Flesh Tone album. Basically what probably happened was a bunch of music insider DJ types were passing tracks around, leading to a straight-forward case of sample clearance… but we’d like to think her producers stumbled upon Lioness while perusing cute kitty photos on omgblog.com.
Now let’s listen closely to both songs to compare:
Lioness – You’re My Heart (Pilotpriest remix) by NewRomantic
Kelis – 4th of July (Fireworks)
Sample magic!
