So, I said, ‘Look, if you can’t speak up, would you mind when you’re finished speaking, just dropping your hand so I know when you’ve finished speaking?’”
McKellen continued, “And then they came out [as gay] years later, and suddenly you couldn’t stop them talking. You heard everything. And now…they’re Elliot. And I’m so happy for Elliot. And so disappointed in myself that I didn’t detect what their difficulty was with communicating.”

So.. out-of-touch cis white gay celebrities are supposed to be able to sense trans people now? Is that a secondary mutation? What a joke to the trans community.. We may be included at the end of ‘LGBTQ’, but we are far outside the empathic reach of most gay (white) men. Many have no tolerance or acceptance of trans individuals, while others only acknowkedge them for the clout of virtue signaling– Leaving them to their own devices when they need real, tangible support. One should take a peak at all the violent/abusive messages recieved from gay men towards, myself, a trans woman on grindr.. and it’s much more pervasive in real life. While, I can count a hand full of actual gay men who truly give a shit about us, Ian McKellan is wrong to assume because he is gay that he would be able to identify the inner turmoil of a closetted trans teenager, who was super intimidated by his (Sir Ian’s) celebrity at the time. At least grandpa is trying..
