While award shows are typically where we see the fashion industry’s usual suspects paraded down the red carpet, the 2023 Grammy Awards offered a blessedly eclectic sartorial feast. Some musicians went casual, and others made of-the-moment moves with their ensembles.
Take the Aussie act Cub Sport, for example. Members Zoe Davis, Tim Nelson and Sam Netterfield sported a selection of custom upcycled denim pieces from Melbourne-based creative Olivia Rowan. Britney and Justin WHOMST?
There’s perhaps nothing that perpetuates the “need for new” more than galas and the so-called faux pas of repeat dressing; love to see some risk-taking that also tackles sustainably-minded design!

Multi-hyphenate Alisha Gaddis’s get-up was also designed by an Australian maker, Brisbane’s Rachel Burke (aka @imakestagram). The floral frock is very grandma’s powder room potpourri stash – an underused muse, IMO.
Speaking of giving granny: Anderson .Paak’s sofa-like chintz-print Gucci suit was cute, but couldn’t compete with the outfits worn by jazz geniuses DOMi and JD Beck (who are signed to Paak’s label, Apeshit Inc.).
Let’s see…contrasting plaids? Check. Rhinestone embellished hair? Hell yes. Embroidered overalls worn with a dizzying turtleneck and anthropomorphized puff ball bag? Why the fuck not!
It seems like quite a few celebs got the “just go for it” memo while dressing for the Grammys, like Canada’s country singin’ sweetheart Shania Twain. Decked out in a suit, bustier and towering chapeau by gender-fluidity championing British designer, Harris Reed, Twain did indeed come to play.
But Twain’s wasn’t the only notable headwear to hit the Grammy red carpet. Sam Smith’s Valentino look was capped off with a top hat, while “Unholy” partner Kim Petras donned a delicate veil to play up the satanic bridal vibes of her vintage Victor Costa frock.
Other stars chose to let their locks do the talking, like Big Freedia’s cascade of sultry strands that beautifully played off a sensuous snake necklace and patent power blazer.
But if the category is statement shine, Lachi – recording artist and founder of RAMPD (Recording Artists & Music Professionals with Disabilities) – wins for her glittery slight cane colour-coordinated with her plum-hued sequinned Alex Perry gown.
We were also inundated with silver attire, from Tom Daley in Stella McCartney to Beyoncé and Harry Styles in more Gucci:
So, as you look ahead to invest in some Spring pieces, channel your inner diva and opt for something argent!

The Sam Smith get-up screamed “Look at Me, I’m relevant!” Sad.
