Not a hip hop fan, but even basic research confirms to me that hip hop began as an expression for marginalised communities ‘whom the public and political discourse had written off’. What better way to evolve the form than have an openly gay man flaunting his sexuality in the most beautiful, confronting and poetic way. And for it selling its tits off.
