Why is Lizzo randomly aiming herself at us today. I love Janet, but after Janet. she basically has been a one-trick pony. SEX. As an artist of the generation AFTER Janet, I’m sure Britney was influenced by her, as well as other artists like Whitney, Paula, and Madonna. Heck, she even sang a Mariah Carey song on her demo, and “You Got It All”, a The Jets song on her showcase. Whitney Houston was one of the greatest voices, and you have to give flowers for Cissy, Aretha, etc… before her. We talk about Mariah, but before her was Minnie. I would have expected a little more humility after that sex scandal, but apparently that head is dense……

I like Lizzo, but she’s way, way, way off base. These are three distinct women with three distinct sounds. Sure, there may be some overlap, that shit happens in music all the time, but come on.
Madonna is roughly 8 years older than Janet so……no,she was not watching Janet unless it was on Good Times.
Lizzo is constantly trying to imply that black artists have created everything, and she is so used to not being contradicted that now she just says whatever she feels like and her massive ego assumes we will treat it as fact.

So, while I get that Lizzo is on this ‘justice for Janet’ kick (absurd in the context of Janet’s life and career prior to Nipplegate,) let’s clear a few things up for Lizzo:
1. While Janet did indeed release an album before Madonna, nobody listened to it and it was a massive flop.
2. By the time Janet came back with a hit album (Control, 1986,) Madonna was ALREADY the world’s biggest female pop star and was ALREADY being considered the world’s most influential, with THREE massive selling albums under her belt – Madonna, Like a Virgin, and True Blue.
3. While 1980s Janet wasn’t cribbing Madonna’s act (instead, she was cribbing her brother and Prince’s act), by the 1990s, she most certainly was (and who can blame her, as Madonna was the biggest star – male or female, film or music – from 1989 to 1993). Heck, Janet’s 1990s output was (deservedly) criticized as three different takes on the Erotica album.
4. Nobody on the planet outside of Lizzo remotely thinks or thought that Britney was impersonating Janet. Nobody. Even the not-able-to-sing-really vocal quality is decidedly different between the two.
