She told the BBC she was moved to tears when she was offered the job. She anchored her first show on private broadcaster Kohenoor on Friday, after three months of training. Transgender people face discrimination in Pakistan and many struggle to find employment. Some are forced into begging, dancing or prostitution to earn money.

So, even a lot of well meaning people and NGOs in India and Pakistan are quite ignorant about the difference between trans and intersex individuals and typically refer to intersex folk as transgender. Did a bit of reading up about the girl and it seems she was born intersex and is not, in fact, trans. Fact of the matter is, far from acceptance, trans issues aren’t even understood in these countries yet.
