I found Gaga’s earlier stuff (Fame/Monster era) as fun as the next person, but I’m tired of treating everything she says like she’s an inspirational/motivational speaker at a TED Talk. It’s usually just abstract stuff like “togetherness” and “inclusion” and “love” and it doesn’t really scratch the surface to get into particularities which we desperately, desperately need right now. It’s like people who think hashtagging tweets #LoveisLove gave us marriage.

Ok. Almost 30 years ago, Madonna released Express Yourself. Gaga ripped that off with Born This Way. During the same promotion period for the Like A Prayer album (which Express Yourself was the 2nd release from, for those of you not old enough to remember), Madonna gave an interview and said that if there were 100 people in a room and 99 people liked what she’d done, she would only remember the 1 person in the room who didn’t. Sound familiar, people? Come on, Gaga. Get some material you haven’t borrowed (ripped off) from Madonna.
