Mel Brooks’s new musical Young Frankenstein is making waves for its obscenely high ticket prices, with premium seats costing as much as $496. Some possible justifications:
1. One million Tony Awards have been cumulatively won by the creative team.
2. Megan Mullally (the lady with the high-pitched voice from Will and Grace). No, that couldn’t possibly be it.
Regardless of the reason, you should perhaps take the advice of theater-guru Gabriel at ModFab when he says:
The irony, of course, is that if you’re willing to wait out the buzz and hit the box office on the day-of-show, there will be great seats available for cheap. I know, it’s ridiculous, but it’s true.
Tickets for the Broadway run haven’t even gone on sale yet, not until July 15. The haters shouldn’t start their negativity so early. More so, some dumb tourist will pay that much, so why fault them for being efficient in business.
well, megan mullally is kind of a comedy genius so if you didn’t describe her as “the lady with the high-pitched voice from Will and Grace”, everyone would be much more informed. but yes, the tickets are way too expensive.
