Kelela‘s Cut 4 Me mixtape took us on several woozy, contemplative couch-bound journeys in 2013 so naturally we have big expectations for 2014. (Namely, a line of Kelela-branded chip flavors to complete the experience.)
The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter brings a warm, ’90s R&B diva sensibility to rigidly structured electronic music and on her latest song, “The High,” she takes that approach into an ever-darker direction. Kelela says she plans to perform the song during her debut headlining concerts this spring.
In other Kelela news, she recently snapped an Instagram pic with pop star Robyn and Odd Future’s Syd Tha Kyd in LA that left us wondering… Collaboration? Coincidence? Cool chick photo op? All of the above?
