!! OMG, new Toni Braxton club jam: “Make My Heart” !!

If you’re a hard-working R&B diva just tryin’ to keep flyin’ in 2010, you need to be number one with everyone. And the best way to do that is to release two singles simultaneously: a club jam for the kids and a slow jam for their older sisters/gay uncles. And if you’re Beyonce, you do next level shit and release a double album that cleverly demarcates your personalty into two conveniently contrasted alter egos by offering one disc of Barbra Ballads and a second disc of Booty Beats. Critics will hate you but consumers will love you.
Which brings us to “Make My Heart”, one of two new Toni Braxton singles that Atlantic Records released yesterday to hype the May 4th release of her sixth album, Pulse. Obviously we got sent the uptempo club jam. Two immediate observations: it samples the same song that Blaque’s “Can’t Get It Back” sampled (anyone know what song it’s from?) and it lacks Toni’s breathy nasal vocal inflections that we all love.

  1. actually, Mis-Teeq covered “Can’t Get It Back”. Blaque did the original, but didn’t release it officially.

  2. I really like this new song by Toni! Yay, she’s back!!!

  3. actually it was “Mis-teeq”

  4. it samples Evelyn “Champagne” King’s “We’re Going To A Party”
