!! OMG, WATCH: Aretha Franklin perform Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep/Ain’t No Mountain’ on Letterman !!

Wow. A song that was written for a voice like Adele‘s could only be trumped by having it sung by a diva like Aretha Franklin.
Check out Franklin singing her own version of the song in combination with Ain’t No Mountain High Enough on Letterman last night. LEGENDARY!

  1. I think she should have worn a gown with sleeves!

  2. if it were the voice, i don’t think any chair would turn

  3. Adele’s version is much, much better.

  4. I know the entire blogosphere has decided to turn a deaf ear to this, but both Aretha’s studio recording of this and her performance here are absolutely terrible. If she didn’t have the legacy she does, this would be a bad Idol audition for sure. And this is coming from someone who would peg Aretha as having one of the greatest voices of all time, if not the greatest (hard to compare her and the other frontrunner for this title, Julie Andrews).
    But yeah, this sucks.

  5. Hummmm .. I didn’t ‘not like it’, but I think that I enjoyed Adele’s version better. I had a hard time understanding Aretha’s lyrics. Sure, she put her own spin on it, and it was amazing, but I think I’m going to have to lean towards Adele on this one. But, at the same time, what an honor to have Aretha Franklin cover one of your songs. WOW!

  6. I’m sorry, but Aretha did not trump Adele. She sounds like she is sick, like she can’t catch her breath. Adele’s voice is clean, you can hear and understand every word she sings.

  7. i didn’t even hear Aretha….i was too busy focused on Cissy Houston standing in the background looking completely lost…..poor thing didn’t even know the words!
