Every month, our music editor ED curates a special selection of newly released music for the OMG Playlist on Spotify (follow us @omgblog).
The year is winding down in a couple days, and normally we would design this playlist to be the soundtrack for the funnest NYE parties. With Omicron in the air, gatherings will be more limited, but the party can still pump from your speakers and headphones. And if it does feel safe to get together with a few friends, we hope you will enjoy it together.
Alaska Thunderfuck rings out the year with the ballad “22.” She sings “22 is just around the corner,” assuring her teenage self of better years to come FIRST and acknowledging the year change SECOND. We acknowledge her genius.
One December release that has already entered the Queer Canon is “Coconuts” by Kim Petras. This track is vivacioussss and we love hearing Kim embrace her Coconuts! It doesn’t have to be more complicated than that. If you haven’t seen her perform it live,we recommend.
This month we’re also digging Tierra Whack’s new EP Rap?. This is her first project since her 2018, and she’s left us thirsting ever since! “Stand Up” is the featured stomp track of the month.
