!! Classical music finds a home online !!

12% of iTunes music sales are classical music. Isn’t that crazy? I never would have guessed, especially considering the poor sales of classical music CDs and also the generally heathen nature of the Internet. However, the record industry is paying attention and digitizing all their old collections so that collectors around the world can enjoy recordings that were previously impossible to find. The nice thing about digital music is that once the music is online, it requires no stocking or upkeep, so the record companies are happy to rip even their most obscure music.
I always liked that scene in Ten where Bo Derek insists on having sex to Ravel’s Boléro. Now she could have it on her iPod to play at a moment’s notice.
