!! OMG why not wear it? Avril Lavigne’s Paris Fashion Week lewks and other favorite moments from Fashion Month !!

If I could make one safe prediction for 2023, it would be that this is the year of the Canadian icon comeback. We will be sending out good vibes forever for our Queen Céline, and also embracing the fact that some of our favourites will be in the spotlight more often.

Michie Mee’s memoir is due out this year; Shania “Let’s Go, Girls” Twain has been setting red carpets ablaze with her fiery new locks and Seussical attire; and another fan of angsty dye jobs, Avril Lavigne, sent social media onlookers into a tizzy with her appearance at Paris Fashion Week shows including Elie Saab, Lanvin and Courrèges.

She even managed to squeak in a hashtag ad for Christian Louboutin’s 30th anniversary! She got the shoes and the bag, girl.

And speaking of bags, let’s chat about what else went down during PFW, etc. after the jump!

Puppets and Puppets FW23

A mushing together of simulacrum, surrealism and kitsch remains a predominant theme when it comes to fashun design; take Puppets and Puppets’ telephone-handle bags and Victoria Beckham’s “wig dress and ponytail shoes” as examples.

In short, designers are really doing the most when it comes to getting that viral moment.

Kei Ninomiya FW23

Kei Ninomiya dazzled a crowd with ensembles that made the models look like human sequins.

Ferragamo FW23 bag

And Maximilian Davis’ second collection for Ferragamo saw the phenom creative counting on size queens to come and collect their new It carry-all.

Di Petsa FW23

Meanwhile at London-based label Di Petsa’s show, Jabariiking played Demeter, the Greek goddess of agriculture and fertility of the earth. My second prediction for the year is that mythological role play starts trending thanks to this luxe leather moment!

Naomi Campbell walks Off-White FW23

And expect athleisure couture to enter the lexicon, too, thanks to stylist and creative director Ib Kamara’s collection at Off-White, the brand formerly helmed by the late Virgil Abloh. It’s already Naomi Campbell-approved.

And here we return to Canadian icons and their ability to be part of the conversation regardless of when it’s being had.

Pamela Anderson walks Jacquemus FW23

Designer Simon Porte Jacquemus, who bucked convention by showing his eponymous brand’s latest collection in December, counted Pamela “V.I.P.” Anderson as a VIP at the event. I personally can’t wait to see who turns up where next!

OMG, why not wear it? is our column for fashion lovers who are up for anything. It is an inspiration point, a place for dreaming, and a discussion of beauty, weirdness, and thought-provoking design moments as forms of connection. Written by Odessa Paloma Parker (@odessapaloma)
