Opening with stripped-down guitar and Peck‘s signature baritone, “Drift Away” sketches a portrait of contemporary isolation in a post-pandemic world:
“Watch the kids ridin’ shotgun roads, in ’21 all the movies closed, high and dry they got nowhere else to go.”
The verses explore themes of displacement and yearning before building to an anthemic release:
“It’s not about gettin’ out, it’s about lettin’ go, don’t ya know? Drift away with me, drift away with me.”
This release caps off a landmark year for Peck. His 7th Annual Rodeo returns to Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, CA, November 14-16, with an impressive roster including Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Joy Oladokun, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and Allison Russell. As curator of the three-day celebration — complete with nightly afterparties and a drag brunch hosted by Meatball — Peck will perform a unique set each evening, taking center stage as Saturday’s headliner on November 15.
