Perfectly said. Amen to that.
Unpopular opinion: attractive male celebrities come out and are lauded as heroes, given awards, put on the covers of magazines, given other gay media opportunities, etc, etc. Not to diminish Gus’s suffering because everyone can struggle with rejection. But my heroes are the kids starting GSAs in their Bible belt high schools, or the people working at HIV clinics, the people filing court cases that eventually get us our rights, the activists organizing support for politicians who defend our rights. I feel like we only get caught up in one type of person during pride month. They’re typically white, gay, cis, hot and rich.
