Paper animal penises and vaginae are all the rage at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival thanks to Isabella Rossellini and her successful Green Porno short film series. Last Friday the actress-turned-director and her collaborator, Patagonia-based scientist Claudio Campagna, hosted a delightfully informative screening of three new shorts with a conservationist message called Green Porno: Bon Appetit as well as an eight-minute animated film about the mating habits of elephant seals. The Q&A was that followed was the most fun I’ve had at TIFF movie screening ever and made me think twice about eating shrimp, anchovies and squid.
If you are in Toronto between now and Sept. 20, check out the Green Porno: Scandalous Sea installation at the Royal Ontario Museum. If you can’t see the show, fear not: a Green Porno book and DVD is coming out on Sept. 22.
