Not only did Glee win last night’s Golden Globe for Best Television Series Comedy or Musical (surprise, it’s both), but the show’s two gays also walked away with awards. Jane Lynch won for best supporting television actress and Chris Colfer was honored as best supporting television actor. After thanking the Hollywood Foreign Press and show-creator Ryan Murphy, Colfer sent a message to Glee‘s gay fans:

“But mostly importantly [a thank you] to all the amazing kids that watch our show and that our show celebrates and are constantly told ‘no’ [by] people and environments and bullies at school, that they can’t be who they are or can’t have what they want because of who they are. Screw that, kids.”

After the jump, watch Colfer take questions post-win in the press room.

  1. He IS an extremely talented young gay man. The fact that he has so successfully brought a less than “standardly masculine” character to the forefront of TV entertainment is a phenomenal accomplishment. Mr. Colfer is showing a whole generation of young people that one doesn’t have to fit a particular mold to pursue one’s dreams. I venture to say that being type-cast is the least of his concerns at this point.

  2. Yea Chris… yea Glee!!!
