British sculptor/musician Nick Reynolds is reviving the tradition of the death mask: a plaster cast made of a person’s face after they die. He has made a face mask of a death row inmate for an anti-death penalty campaign, and also creates masks on living people and calls them “life masks.”
When he’s not capturing people’s faces in plaster, Nick plays in the band Alabama 3, which is best known Stateside for their contributions to the Sopranos soundtrack. (via Fuck Death Foundation)
