“I know a lot of people, and perhaps especially religious people, will say that David and I should count ourselves lucky for living in a country that allows civil partnerships, and call it quits there. Well, I don’t accept this. I don’t accept it because there is a world of difference between calling someone your ‘partner’ and calling them your ‘husband’. ‘Partner’ is a word that should be preserved for people you play tennis with, or work alongside in business.”
— Elton John writing in the Independent about his decision to fight for full marriage equality with David Furnish
Didn’t Elton recently scold American gays who wanted marriage equality, saying that the civil unions they had in the UK were good enough? It was only two years ago when he spoke out about Prop 8 – saying that the word “marriage” was going to put a lot of people off. Glad he’s on board now, but wow…. would have helped if he had been a supporter when we were in that fight.
I’d have to agree with him on this. I never saw what was such a big deal about being able to have a civil union anyway. It wasn’t marriage, it wasn’t living together – it was some kind of social and legal purgatory for same sex couples.
FYI – David Furnish is my 7 degrees of separation guy. My sister went to university with his brother in Sudbury, Canada. So that means I kinda know Elton, right?? I guess not.
It’s so interesting how ‘partner’ is a word that the gay community is trying to disassociate from their marriages and more non-religious/feminist couples are using it to remove the religious connotation/sexist male dominate connotations from theirs.
Jizz bag is better?
Sorry but the thought of having sex with Elton makes me sick. I hope the lover is getting paid$$$ because there could be no other reason…Same thoughts of Elvis Duran and his man candy..$$$$$go a long way.
