!! OMG, music video round-up: Scissor Sisters, M.I.A., Kanye & Chromeo !!

Here is a short recap of the most thrilling music videos to be released in the past week or so…
If Scissor Sisters front man Jake Shears had published a sex book earlier this year, the music video for “Any Which Way” could’ve been the making of documentation. The video is basically an excuse for the Sisters to dress up in colorfully skimpy outfits and do wacky things that look good when filmed with a high-speed Phantom camera (such as shooting sushi at each other). It was directed by Ace Norton, the man behind this delectable Simian Mobile Disco video.

If you’ve heard M.I.A.‘s noisy new album /\/\/\Y/\, then you may have noticed that “XXXO” feels a bit like the tacked-on pop single. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.) In the Hype Williams-directed clip for the song, M.I.A. glams up the hyperactive .gif portraiture and graphical Internet overload that she’s been known to indulge in. Very reminiscent of the video for “Jimmy”.

A lot has been said about Kanye West‘s new “Power” video, so we’ll keep it short: basically, it was directed by video artist Marco Brambilla and inspired by an installation he created for the elevator in the Standard Hotel in New York. It is also inspired by Renaissance-era fresco paintings and it is the third video in which Kanye dies at the end. So there’s a little something in there for the haters as well.

People always tell me I sort of resemble that tall, curly-haired guy with glasses from Chromeo. People also occasionally mistake me for a Jew. So… if I were a tall Jewish drink of water from Montreal, I’d like to think this is the kind of clever pop music video I’d star in.

  1. And our saint Kylie M sings in the last chorus. Fantastic Clip.

  2. Love the Ana Matronic. Very nice. Ann Magnuson was doing that cokehead post feminist fatale crap 20 years ago when she was in Bongwater. But it’s still highlarious.

  3. I remember scissor sisters complaining about how their last album was not a hit… so why do they keep doing the exact same thing? Falsetto is gross.
