There’s a huge gay underground of queer fans within the comic book world, and those skin-tight suits, the subversive ways of approaching issues and colourful fantasy worlds have been intoxicating us and drawing us in for years! Well, a new doc will delve into the world of queer comics!
No Straight Lines centeres on telling the stories of the LGBT cartoonists, artists, and writers who were working to tell stories outside of the mainstream. In DIY culture, these creators made zines, mini-comics, and all sorts of do-it-yourself content to tell their stories. DIY culture has since evolved over the last four decades to incorporate online tools to create webcomics, but its relevance continues to be maintained.
Hall teamed up with award-winning filmmaker Vivian Kleiman (who has won Peabody Award and has been nominated for an Eisner), and the two are taking five queer creatives from the anthology to feature in the documentary. Featured artists include Ed Luce, artist of Wuvable Oaf, Emeric Kennard, Ajuan Mance, Nicole Georges, and Ivan Velez, Jr.
