I liked both films, which are entirely different in concept. The nudity in “GOC” is natural and not in the least bit offensive — except, perhaps, to those Americans who harbour a foreskin phobia. Both actors sport the penis as mother nature would have it.
I didn’t go to the theater to see this film, had to have back surgery and I don’t care how good the film and this film was and is awesome but back pain is no joke… now that’s told, I did get see it in Netflix and I couldn’t stop watching it over and over again, it’s like a novel you can put down. They became real and I became a happy camper that there is a happy ending.

Very late to this party but I’m compiling info for a project on LGBTQ cinema. Won’t bother arguing points with anyone because it’s all opinions anyway but, to the person that said the actors in CMBYN are homophobic: untrue! In fact Armie Hammer’s Mother is homophobic, didn’t want him to take the role and wouldn’t see the picture. He spoke about this at length in interviews and press junkets several times. He also said, he didn’t care what she thought! I prefer GOC and it has nothing to do with the sex scenes and everything to do with the visceral and gritty realism of the film. I also thought the acting was better in GOC. O’Connor and Secareanu were brilliant and the supporting cast spot on. In CMBYN, it’s Chalamet’s picture from his first scene to his last but it’s just a bit too glossy and “straights playing Gays” for me.
Both God own country and CMBYN are good LGBT films. However I DO agree with another poster CMBYN was straight washed. Yes I know it is based on a book BUT I personally found the straight sex scenes abhorrent. I also do believe the gay director was TOLD by the studio to tone down the gay sex. It was OFFENSIVE to me that CMBYN did NOT show the GAY SEX. God Own Country did and the media reports the sex scenes are graphic is homophobic BS. GAY men we HAVE SEX! Yet there is an anti gay bias NOT to show the gay sex to appeal to heterosexuals.
It’s really nice to see more male nudity on the big screen. The male form is so beautiful and I hope this trend continues.

This is more of that tired, sad bullshit that we’ve gotten used to seeing on these posts now for years. Behind all that judgement is self-loathing, don’t forget it. This one was more lived-in than Call Me By Your Name, has great actors and a great sense of place. One of my favorites of the year.

They’ve never shown an ounce of being homophobic and I HIGHLY doubt they would’ve played gay characters if they were homophobic. It was also an amazing movie. Of course they are “amazing” because they’re “straight”. And since they’re straigh they were too fragile to have any gay sex scenes. Homphobic straight-worshipping piece of filth. The movie, the director, the actors and the ones who try to defend it.

Nice to see they are confident enough to go nude unlike lots of actors in the traditional film media .
