Somehow news of Bat For Lashes covering Depeche Mode’s “Strangelove” managed completely bypass my social network. Thank god for old fashioned mediums like satellite radio and word-of-mouth otherwise I would not have known that The Befeathered One Natasha Khan had recorded a version of the new wave hit for a Gucci Guilty ad campaign. Worse, I might not have even known that the fragrance Gucci Guilty even existed! (So much for luxury brands attempting to attract customers online.)
Anyway, as far as cover versions go this sounds almost identical to the original but with a live arrangement and signature BFL harpsichord. So it feels a bit meh but still worth copping if you’re a fan, especially as Gucci is giving it away for free and with no-strings attached (i.e. no email sign-up required) via YouTube . You’ve nothing to lose but 4.53 MB of space on your hard drive.
