Harry Styles and David Dawson in My Policeman
The year of Harry Styles continues with his much-hyped gay bedroom scenes in the period romance My Policeman. Harry’s second big movie of the year (following Don’t Worry Darling) is also his sexiest. It’s probably the sexiest thing he’s ever done, TBH, but feel free to dispute that in the comments.
In My Policeman, Styles plays a closeted police officer who muddies his traditional straight marriage after meeting a gay museum curator played by David Dawson (and sparks ensue, obviously).

Although some may find this movie dreary, it brought home with a vengeance the terrifying consequences of being gay in the England of the 1950’s. The law by which the art director was tried was called “gross indecency”. This law did not cover the charge of sodomy but was concerned with what one would describe as homosexual activity, which I would think included the possession of pornography, solicitation (private or public), behaving in a brazen manner in public and acting “gay”. What is so frightening is the “thought police” quality of this law. Policemen would raid your home if suspicion was raised and take, it happened in this movie, your journals, your correspondence and read them out in open court, which enjoyed great leeway in applying this vague law to the accused.
While some found this movie boring, for my part it tells me how far we have come.
