!! OMG, take a walk through New York City in 1911 in this newly-restored 4K footage !!

This is incredible! You get a very real sense of what it was like to be there, particularly with the quality so vastly improved!

The original 9-minute footage was restored by the Museum Of Modern Art for an exhibit in 2018 featuring all of Svenska Biografteatern’s travelogue series. But now, video editor Denis Shiryaev has done another restoration of the video, colorizing the footage and upscaling it to 60 FPS and 4K resolution using neural networks.

Check out NYC in 1911 above! I’m pretty sure I spotted some gays on the bridge even!

  1. It’s great to see! Especially as the people were not walking around at high speed as in most vintage films. The upscaling was successful, the colorization not so much. The colors were constantly changing across skin tones, and clothing like iridescent butterfly wings, sort of acid trip lite.

  2. I played it back four times and paused it—- there are definitely two grown men walking, holding hands.

  3. It plays here in Italy.
    This is fantastic!

  4. Check out the white man and black man holding hands at 6:19

  5. This is amazing, I love getting to see things like this. And, did anyone else notice the two young gentlemen that pass in front of the camera holding hands around 6:19?

  6. WOW,I love NYC

  7. it doesn’t play on my PC. Anyone else have this problem?
