!! OMG, WATCH: Mardi and Lenny of A LIFE LIVED TRANS sit down with Shaye and Amanda Scott of @GreatScotts !!

A Life Lived Trans podcast is hosted by Mardi P. and Lenny Z., two trans elders with a combined 100 years of transitioning. Each week, with humour, love and the odd fab guest, they share what it took to survive transitioning in the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and ’00s, passing that history on to younger trans people and anyone who wants to be an ally.

The hosts say most apps boost fights about trans people over trans people’s own stories, so the show travels by word of mouth. If an episode pops up in your feed, LIKE it, SHARE it, COMMENT on it. It helps!

This week, Mardi and Lenny sit down with YouTube favourites @GreatScotts, Shaye and Amanda Scott. The couple fell in love in a tight-knit Mormon community and are coming up on 20 years married. About seven years ago Shaye came out to Amanda as trans, and they worked through her transition together, slowly. They talk about their Mormon upbringing, the faith deconstruction her transition set off for both of them, raising three queer-positive kids in conservative Utah, and how Shaye’s film production background gave them the skills (and the nerve) to take their story online.

Then it gets bigger: who gets to be the face of the trans movement, and whether being “palatable” should be the goal at all. Amanda opens up about her shifting identity and sexuality. Their more conventional look isn’t the template, the couple say. They’re one voice in a movement that needs every kind. Lenny and Mardi share their own stories of trying to pray away their gender, leaving religion and finding freedom on the other side.
